SHOULD WE RECONNECT?

ASK MS. G – MAY 1, 2026

DEAR MS. G: I have a best friend who ended up lying to me a few years ago and I cut ties with him for my own peace. And yet I still miss him (the old him?!)! Although we have both moved on, I still wonder sometimes…will we ever reconcile and rebuild a friendship?

SIGNED, MISSING A FRIEND

DEAR MISSING:

My typical response would be to “let sleeping dogs lie”, but after further investigating this matter, I discovered fascinating wisdom that answered the question and offered illuminating concepts worth sharing (like a breath of fresh air).

There will be no reconciliation with this person. What you’re actually missing is that time in your life. You’re experiencing a “life review” of a previous cycle. Was it through accepting the end of this friendship that you discovered your own personal power? Was this a monumental moment when you stood up for yourself and discovered how much you were capable of on your own? You’re being asked to remember and take a deep inventory of how much you’ve grown. Are you being challenged, currently, in a similar way (in order to emerge even stronger once again)?

In the past, this person was faced with “divided loyalty”. There were other factions (people) that had to be considered and he just didn’t want to hurt any of the parties involved. Unfortunately, he took a cowardice way out and people were hurt. You got hurt. But never the less, this was a vital friendship that served its purpose during important times in your life (your old life).

They think of you as well, and wish you well, but decisions have been made and both of you have different lives now – different commitments. Be proud of yourself for how you handled this and send them love (just as they send you love). This is a wonderful example of how people come and go in our lives for reasons and seasons. Love can remain when we embrace it as vital energy that feeds the spirit in each of us; when we view it as fuel for an infinite journey. Here, we have a lesson for the matured hearts who learn to love beyond the constraints of the physical. I hope this helps.
